Moab’s unique combination of beautiful red rock scenery, two national parks and the cool waters of the Colorado River has made it one of the most sought after destinations in the Southwest. Moab will be our base camp for this landscape and light painting adventure.
Arches National Park will be our backdrop for long exposure light painting. Mesa Arch, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point State Park will give us sunrise and sunset photo opportunities with the teal blue waters of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below. Studio still life lightpainting will also be on the agenda.
You will learn a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, including:
- Working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset
- The fundamentals of powerful compositions
- Light Painting, both on location and in classroom settings
We’ll also teach you a number of professional “digital darkroom” secrets as well. Our hands-on intensive seminars—held during the middle of the day when the light is not conducive for photography—will teach you the fundamentals of image processing, and allow you to master important techniques including:
- Working with Adobe Lightroom with Rob Sylvan
- Layer masking and image blending techniques
- Creating HDR Photographs with Randy Van Duinen
- Working with Photoshop and other photographic software
- Special effects techniques used for artistic expression
- Tabletop Light Painting in the classroom
